It will be interesting to see what tactical scheme the English will choose. In this tournament, they mostly played 4-2-3-1, although many experts believe the English team looked best playing with three defenders. However, the Germans were close to not making it to the knockout stage if they had lost to the Hungarians, but Goretzka's goal in the 84th minute and the resulting draw allowed the Germans to take second place in the group with 4 points.<\/p>\n<p>The Germans' performance in the group stage resembled a roller coaster &#8211; a rather lackluster performance in the opening match against the French, followed by an excellent game and a convincing 4-2 victory against the Portuguese team. In the decisive match, where an easy victory against the Hungarians was expected, the Germans had to chase and were saved only at the very end of the match. Although Germany is no longer the dominant team it was 7 years ago in Brazil, historically, European Championships have been successful for the Germans: in the last 3 European Championships, the German team managed to reach the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>To achieve victory against the strong English team playing in their arena, the German team cannot make the same gross mistakes we saw in the match against Hungary.
